Do we put on Poltergist II and say...
    They're back...

Or is this a new writer?/reader looking to put all message boards, authors and blogger back in their place?

I am all for making fun of rabid fangirls and stupid behavior but setting yourself up as the net police pretty much makes you look stupider than the ones you are trying to make fun of.

Or at least I think so. Gosh guess we are all screwed unless she sets up the rulz so we all know what is allowed and not allowed in romanceland.

    must. get. more. popcorn.

    1. Heh, I will admit my eyebrows rose when I first saw it. I've forgotten where now. Of course, since I promptly added it to my Bloglines list, I can say much. ;p

    2. can't not can

as in, I can't say much.

These things don't need spellcheckers, they need mindreaders. ;p

    3. popcorn seems to be a necessity.

      net police. Snort.

    4. I've been a lurker on the blogs and boards and finally came out of the shadows. I have actually been reading romance for about ten years.
I am sure you have been.

Nor do I plan on acting as the net police. Far from it! I've just seen such aweful behavior out there and it bothered me that a lot of people I know in romanceland, and blogland, that are afraid to talk about it.
ahhh yes the ever famous 'millons of people agree with me in email'

Good for you to take on the task of being the voice for pussies everywhere too afraid to speak for themselves.

I want people have a place to dish about it. The good and the bad!
And it didn't even take seven days to create?

I might have made a huge error in jumping on the bandwagon when I did, but I saw what happened on the JRW boards and I didn't like it. I have friends on those boards who quake at the mention of the MODs, which is why I took them on in my first blog post.
Took them on... who are you to 'take' them on and why should they give a fuck? Don't get me wrong, I agree they should have done things differently. But that is easy for me to say having not been in their shoes or having seen the posts flying about.

I tried to right the wrong impression in my bio, but I think maybe I need to still alter it so people don't take my blog the wrong way. But, like I wrote above, I make no appologies for wanting to write about the things I see around the net that bother me. I've seen many bloggers who do. Even you. So I don't see anything wrong in what I set my blog up for.
I have no right to tell you what to blog about, what to focus on, or what is right or wrong. I completely admit to that... I just find it tacky to set up a blog with the intent and purpose of doing nothing but passing judgment on others.

But hey I don't buy the gossip rags at the checkout counter either, so what do I know?

But the way I see it, you are not reviewing books, you are trying to review people. And really who are you to judge? Are your feelings the benchmark of all things right?

Dear Author and KarenS both have takes on Authors Behaving Badly... and I admit that at times I find it amusing and others I find it annoying. But they haven't done a quick change in a phoneboth to leap tall buildings in a single bound and save us poor stupid voiceless bloggers from the evol authors everywhere.

They are ::cough::unlike you::cough:: apart of the romanceland community and I don't think either set out to be the voice of a nation but to amuse themselves and others if they care to come along.

Besides, people seemed to like it so much, The Dishing Diva has become The Dishing Divas!
uh huh, let me guess... complete strangers you have never evah emailed or spoken to before today - right?

    5. When I first read your blog post on this I thought, Okay so this is her opinion that's fine, I don't agree but everyone doesn't always agree. But when I came in here and read your comments to DD when she explained herself to you (which she didn't have to do), you were soooo horrible to her. Why? Blogs are to each their own. I just have to comment on some of your words that shocked me. I know I don't frequent your blog all that much, but you are often on mine SF, and I have always liked you. That's why your behavior is surprising.

Good for you to take on the task of being the voice for pussies everywhere too afraid to speak for themselves.

The issue on JR's message board (and what DD bloged about) was with me and Dylan and we spoke out, so what pussies are you talking about? We blogged about it on our own personal blogs and SF.

Took them on... who are you to 'take' them on and why should they give a fuck? Don't get me wrong, I agree they should have done things differently. But that is easy for me to say having not been in their shoes or having seen the posts flying about.

Nobody's saying they have to give a fuck, she is just putting a blog out there and if people want to read it they can if not they don't have to. And who is she too do that? A free American names Tyler (Talor? something like that, lol.) that wants to speak her mind. What's wrong with that? Why all the hate over it? She never said she was the police, she just wants to voice her opinions like everyone else.
And in the MOD's shoes or not, they were BITCHES, and COMPLETLY WRONG.

But the way I see it, you are not reviewing books, you are trying to review people. And really who are you to judge? Are your feelings the benchmark of all things right?

I don't think she's ever claimed to be a book reviewer. And if she wants to give her take on others? Who the heck are you or I to judge her on it? Again she's just giving her opinion.

Sorry I really really am not trying to be rude, but you were so mean to her I had to stick up for her. I don't understand why you couldn't have blogged what you blogged and when she explained herself you could have just said "thanks for your explanation, but I'll just as soon not frequent your blog, not my thing". I guess I'm just not understanding where all the hate around the net is coming from lately. Again sorry.

    6. Are you trying for the Wall of Dishonor? I think authors are free game because they earn money off the public but I have a hard time with passing judgment on bloggers who are out to entertain themselves and no others.

And we annoy you at times? :) It's a good thing too. We wouldn't want to agree on everything.

I wish KarenS was back to take on the fact that Elizabeth Bevarly is on the wall of honor.

    7. Wait, what did I miss? Who annoys who at times??? Did Sybil or Dishing Diva say that?

By Blogger Nicole, at 9/22/2006 10:18:00 AM

    8. Hey Jazz,

But when I came in here and read your comments to DD when she explained herself to you (which she didn't have to do),
no she didn't, at all, anymore than Ward needs to explain to her why she did or did not answer the question or if anyone else was mod'ed or so forth and so on...

The issue on JR's message board (and what DD bloged about) was with me and Dylan and we spoke out, so what pussies are you talking about? We blogged about it on our own personal blogs and SF.

LOL not you or Dylan. I didn't even say it... DD post from above sez: Far from it! I've just seen such aweful behavior out there and it bothered me that a lot of people I know in romanceland, and blogland, that are afraid to talk about it. I want people have a place to dish about it. The good and the bad!

I might have made a huge error in jumping on the bandwagon when I did, but I saw what happened on the JRW boards and I didn't like it. I have friends on those boards who quake at the mention of the MODs, which is why I took them on in my first blog post.

I took that to mean, well what is says... she is going to be the voice of the lil people too scared of the big bad authors to do it themselves.

I don't think she's ever claimed to be a book reviewer. And if she wants to give her take on others? Who the heck are you or I to judge her on it? Again she's just giving her opinion.
That is my point, she isn't reviewing books, talking about books or any reader blog type things... she set up a blog to be judge and jury on people's behavior. She is going to what? put a gold star up for being a good lil blogger and put your name up on the naughty board for doing something she think is evol...

I think there is a big difference in having a reader blog and commenting on the community and having a bitch blog. A difference in having a general blog where you talk about life and whatever and comment on shitty things you see.

Sorry I really really am not trying to be rude, but you were so mean to her I had to stick up for her.
I don't see you as being rude at all.

I don't understand why you couldn't have blogged what you blogged and when she explained herself you could have just said "thanks for your explanation, but I'll just as soon not frequent your blog, not my thing".
It is my blog and since she has said more than once she read it, I can't imagine she would expect that. I tend to face things head on and I wasn't mean to her.

I guess I'm just not understanding where all the hate around the net is coming from lately. Again sorry.
Oh goodnight... I hardly hate the chick, I don't know her. She did something I deemed stupid. I called her on it. Which is 'one' of the things I do to many on my blog.

Should I set up one blog with the sole purpose of posting about stupid shit people do on the internet? Would that be mean? How in the world am I being mean to her and what she is doing, just blogging?

By Blogger sybil, at 9/22/2006 11:00:00 AM

    9. Jane this is proof we share a brain and you got most of it *g* cuz I so thought this:
I wish KarenS was back to take on the fact that Elizabeth Bevarly is on the wall of honor.

Elizabeth Bevarly? LOL counts this author out for being a reader of karens. uh I mean reader...

Are you trying for the Wall of Dishonor?
oh why not, just get it out of the way up front *g*

I think authors are free game because they earn money off the public but I have a hard time with passing judgment on bloggers who are out to entertain themselves and no others.
LOL see I tend to think both are up for grabs... if you put anything out on the net in public you get what you get... but setting yourself up as the voice of the lil people who are scared of the big bad authors/messageboardposters/bloggers and making it your sole purpose to judge them just seems wrong. But hey maybe that is just me...

And we annoy you at times? :) It's a good thing too. We wouldn't want to agree on everything.
oh hon... like I don't annoy you at times. And I am still your bitch!

By Blogger sybil, at 9/22/2006 11:09:00 AM

    10. Syb said that sometimes we annoy her with the ABB thread and I am sure that is true. It's just nice that we can annoy each other and still get along.

As for reader bloggers harshing on other reader bloggers that bothers me to some extent. I am thinking of bloggers like JMC or Tara Marie or Jennie here and not really Dear Author. What have they done to be judged by others in the blogosphere? I mean, these are opinions that people are rendering and . . . I don't know. I haven't fully fleshed out those thoughts yet, but I know that at DA I have drawn a personal line that only authors can be part of the ABB even if I think that bloggers from time to time might misbehave (in my own judgment).

    11. Hey you know what? I'm just freaking glad I came to your blog, Sybil. I've only been here in passing, but now I've taken the time to read more and I like. lol. So you'll see more of me around. Hope that's a good thing *g*. See ya.

By Blogger Nicole, at 9/22/2006 02:06:00 PM

    12. Sybil, care to start the ever so famous song? (how long has this one been kicking around?) I've been humming it while reading the above comments.

To the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean":

The Lurkers support me in e-mail
They all think I'm great don't you know.
You posters just don't understand me
But soon you will reap what you sow.

Lurkers, lurkers, lurkers support me, you'll see, you'll see
Off in e-mail the lurkers support me, you'll see.

The lurkers support me in e-mail
"So why don't they post?" you all cry
They're scared of your hostile intentions
They just can't be as brave as I.

Lurkers, lurkers, lurkers support me, you'll see, you'll see
Off in e-mail the lurkers support me, you'll see.

One day I'll round up all my lurkers
We'll have a newsgroup of our own
Without all this flak from you morons
My lurkers will post round my throne.

Lurkers, lurkers, lurkers support me, you'll see, you'll see
Off in e-mail the lurkers support me, you'll see.

      (Author is Jo Walton....)

I'm sorry, but if you have an opinion, then just say what it is without resorting to "my friends think..." or "it's too dangerous for me to say this publicly, so...."

I've fought many a political battle where I had No One on my side, emailing me privately that they were being picked on, and gosh, you're so brave for going head to head on this battle.

Nope. Usually, it's just me, a mike, and a lot of very annoyed people in power waiting to point out publicly that my front lawn is a disaster and my daughter came to school with a stained shirt, so therefore I must be unfit to be holding elected office or suporting that opinion.

      It's a message board.

      It's an author.

      It's an internet fight.

Really, please, go use some of this energy towards figuring out how to get the federal government to pay for special education, on orgainzing a fundraiser for the high school science classes which can no longer hold basic chemistry classes because they can't afford updated chemicals. Or go save dogs from being euthanized, or fight for fair zoning ordinances or something.

But really, a wall of shame for author behavior? For blogger behavior? Oy gevalt.

There are So Many Other things to work on in this life. Why this?
