    I'm not a prude

Has got to be one of the most used phrases in romanceland. Often followed by BUT or following AND.

Adding in "Am I the only one..."

What would be the phrase you would ban for life from message boards, email or chat? You know... if you could ;).

    1. Gah. I hate "Am I the only one..." Mostly because there's a kind of "seeking personal validation" feeling that seems to go along with it. Either you like it, or you don't; I don't know why it matters in the big scheme of things if others do or not.

However, I'm more forgiving of those type of posts if the person seems to be questioning *why* they didn't like it (or did like it) -- like there's an aspect of the story that they really liked (or didn't like) but can't quite nail down what it was.

Like if someone says, "Am I the only one who doesn't like J.D. Robb?" I roll my eyes.

But if someone says, "Am I the only one who can't get past Roarke's 'poetic mouth'?" That's interesting to me, because it's a small, revealing detail about the process of reading and a function of taste.

    2. And you know, I'm not a prude, but this blog is really, really purple.

    3. Mr. Joker, you make such beautiful things, ohh, you're so powerful, and PURPLE ohh I love purple. end Vicki Vale voice

    4. Hey, I happen to know I "am" the only one who didn't particularly like Roarke on sight. Er, read. Really. But then I've always thought Roberts characters are very stereotypical and Roarke in his way is the worst.

Now, prove me wrong about being the only one. (VBG)

As to what I'd like to see banned from discussions, well that would be a certain "r" word . . . no surprise there. Hehehe.

Actually it's discussions of that word that I could do without, not the word itself.

    6. If I could ban anything it would be LONG BLATHERING POSTS that just go ON and ON and ON from people who know every fricking thing about everything.

      DOes that count?

    7. But then what would I blog about? Although I am too lazy to be too long and blathering.

    8. I went of Roberts years ago, but then I discovered Robb, and I'm desperately trying to pretend that the two are not the sampe people.

      Hey, whatever works right?

    9. OK, clearly, I was smoking some weird shit when I wrote the above. Pardon the typo's. Sigh

    10. Beverly, my sweet twin, Roarke blows chunks ;) I prefer my heroes not to have more money than God. I mean, what kind of conflict can a person like that have? Not only that, I trust that those who love JD Robb can take it if I don't. I'm not trying to force Anne Stuart down anybody's throat!

I managed to read to page two of the second book before I decided life was too short.

Ban sermonizing posts. Where someone feels the need to tell all of us that we are destroying woman's rights because we read books that might have forced seduction scenes. Yeah, okay. I'm an adult and I know when something has crossed the line thank you very much. Bug off.

Hmm, I might try posting that next time I see it. Course, I'll be told how everyone was having a lovely discussion until my troll self showed up and threw gasoline on the fire.

    11. Hey, I actually made it through the first three In Death before deciding a trilogy was enough for me. Hehehe. Not sure whether I'd actually gotten any more of them before Amy appropriated them and proceeded to get all the rest of them over the years as fast as they reached paperback.

Oddly enough, or not, she can't tolerate any by a certain Nora Roberts person. Or at least she didn't enthuse over the lone orphan ones I had already. Again oddly enough, she also appropriated them. I console myself with the knowledge that this is her first romance author collection so there is hope. (BG)
