The Good, The Bad and The Unread

And yet again... Interesting, the Aphrodisia books that I have read so far were to 95% erotic romances. Me TOO!

Which is what pisses me off! Those writers deserve a fair shake with fans. And if you buy book Z with the label EROTIC ROMANCE. And stupid you, expect EROTIC ROMANCE. And get a non romance hea and never buy the line again because you were lied to and cheated.

You may never see the other books that you would have enjoyed. Is there really that much of a market for books that are all about the sex and not about the relationship? Really? I mean, if I had to choose between the focus on the relationship with really hot sex and focus on the really hot sex, I am picking the first one every single time. Is this the Duffy that's the editor for Kensington? Cause I'm pretty sure her name is Kate, not Karen. oops

I am good to get my own name right at three am. thanks for pointing it out ;) A few things. Kate Duffy is an editor for Brava and has absolutely nothing to do with the Aphrodisia line, therefor it's important to remember that her definition is an opinion of someone who has nothign to do with the line in question.

And while erotica is not about the romance it IS about about the character, anbd there is a story.

Well, good erotica is anyway. LOL

ANd, I've read several Aphrodisia books, and all have had HEA, except my first novella, whihc was sold to them before they changed the label to ER. And even since then, all of mine also have more romance and Happy endings.

It's a shame so much of a kerfuflle was made at the begining of this lines launch because I do fear it's keeping readers from finding stories and authors they could really enjoy It's a storybook ending, minus the deep-dicking. what a stupid, slanted, condescending article! oh well, i imagine there were no halfway sane, halfway intelligent people there. that would've disappointed the writer. i'm sure he excluded any comments from reasonable folk. I've never been to RT, but I hear it's a trip! My impression is that it's a "fan convention" whereas RWA is geared towards the writing community (outside of the booksigning of course).

I want to attend RT at least once, but dang, they seem chained to the east coast. Why they can't land in L.A. or even Vegas is beyond me. just curious, do they announce the RITA awards at this? It seems like that very long list of nominations came out a long time ago, and I never read of any results. I didn't know half the books, but I still want to know who won. I was at one a few years ago and sad to say he's pretty accurate. While I could have cared less about the whole cover model thing - I went to meet authors and get free and new books (and I did - boy did I) a lot of the women are way over the top. And I think Wendy's right - they are geared more towards the fans. Still - I had a hoot, and I met a lot of really nice authors. I may be smoking crack, but I think both RWA and RT are in Texas next year; one in Houston and the other in Dallas. Not sure where you are, Wendy, but they are getting further west. well there is plenty of crack to go around it seems :)

And yet again...

Booklist: Core Collection: Erotic Romance, by John Charles and Shelley Mosley

Although it can be difficult to distinguish between erotic romances and erotica, Duffy has a simple yet effective way of separating the two kinds of books. In erotica, while there might be a relationship between the two protagonists, the focus of the story is on the really great sex."

Oh my... uh he sounds like he had a fun time. Since I have never been to RT anyone want to weigh in on what it is really like? Or does this sound at all close to what it is really like?

They couldn't find anyone else to cover this story? I mean geeze, I can see reacting oddly to some of this but is it just me or does this guy not seem to like women in general?

Didn't mrs giggles or someone post about some past RT convention?
