    More from Jordan Summers....

    interesting news....

Raelene Gorlinsky of Ellora's Cave announced that the company will be launching a Regency line in the fall. They aren't interested in previously published books, only new submissions. These will NOT be erotic romances. We're talking sweet Regencies. So if you know anyone who writes these books, give them a heads up.

I wonder how that will sell.

    1. I think someone's been peeking in my brain, because I said last fall that the potential for the market is there, since major publishers are leaving the market.

Interesting that they're branching out in the other direction. It will be fun to see.

    2. Well, okay, I suppose Angie has a point, but still, EC is not where I'd normally go to find sweet romances . . . in any era.

      That's just weird.

    3. Oh Yeah! I was thinking last night when I was blogging about the new erotica offerings that I wondered if we would see the epubbs go an entirely different route. Ie. Keishon was complaining that there are very few new traditional romances being put out on the market. I agree. I can't help but think the rising ebook market can be the place for those books the major publishers don't believe a market exists. I buy quite a few books from Belgrave House who offer out of print and new regency releases and so does Jayne.

    4. Well, they could sell the sweet Regencies at Cerridwen and the erotic ones from EC. That I could see happening.

    5. Cerridwen is where they're buying the Regencies, apparently, and Regency historicals (non-erotic) as well. I think they're seeing the niche and going for it. Smart people.

    6. I think as long as it is clearly marked what it is... It is a good thing. I don't see EC as as a category 'type' like I do Blaze.

LOL so good idea angie ;)

Bev: well you don't now... but maybe you will in a year *g*

Jane: it shall be interesting to see what they come up with and if they can make it work

I won't be buying them, well that depends. I don't do anything that slams a door in my face. It doesn't have to be 100 pages of sex but really a romance where they never make love is just depressing. And I shouldn't have to 'use' my imagination to complete a story, otherwise I would be what is a writer.

Slam the door and you haven't complete the story and if it doesn't 'work' with the couple making love, that is a very depressing romance. Oh course I once knew a woman how had what she thought was a wonderful loving relationship and they hadn't had sex in seven years, so what the hell do I know.

Yes it annoys me a bit ;) but to each there own, if there is a market for it, someone should fill it. But I have read very few trads, mostly Balogh and I have Megan's to read (yes there is a theme there ;) ).

Nic: Haven't read a Cerridwen yet.

      Caro: I agree very smart.

AR: I did what I always do in this case... emailed maili ;) Thanks for letting me know.

    7. I think it's a smart idea since "traditional" print publishers have abandoned ship. I mean, look at how many print publishers jumped on the bandwagon after EC made a name for itself publishing sexy paranormals.

However....how many trad readers will go over to eBook? Is the reader base eroding because of age? If so, I don't see all those little old ladies jumping on the eBook bandwagon.

I'd love to see some demographics for readers of trads. Because frankly all I can do is speculate that younger women aren't dying to get their hands on them. Otherwise, the sub genre would be doing just fine.

Also, I think a lot of people (OK, me! LOL) are fed up with the time period in general. So it will be interesting to see if EC can breathe some life into it.

    8. I agree with Wendy. It might seem odd but they're filling a niche. I posted the news to a pubbed authors loop and someone came back and said the same thing--there's a hole there.

I guess we'll see but I think it's kinda cool. Don't hit me sybil but I cut my teeth on sweet regencies (think Mary Jo Putney about 20 years or so ago) so they have a special place in my heart even if I don't read them anymore.
