    Smooch Ya
Have you or your kiddos read any books from the Smooch line? It says in the guidelines: As our primary audience is girls ages 12-16, there should be no sex scenes. I am wondering if they are ok for a just turned 12 year old. Sis's birthday is the 9th and I always get her a book with her gift.

I was thinking of Got Fangs? but I am not sure if that is still a lil old for her. I think nicole, you read this right?

I noticed Circus of the Darned just came out, which lead to smooch site (owned by Dorchester). And I keep being drawn to I'm So Jinxed! because the talk to the hand cover amuses me.

My problem is A. I have no memory and B. the sis and I are sooooo different. Hell at 12 I was reading Jackie Collins, Sidney Sheldon and VC Andrews. None of which I would buy for the lil sis.

She is a huge fan of Joan Lowery Nixon.. oddly enough her mystery/horror books like: The Haunting, The Weekend was Murder, The Stalker, Murdered, My Sweet, The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore so forth and so on... sadly she has no interest in her historical books. The author wrote over 100 before she passed away in 2003. I say oddly enough because she takes after her father (the policeman) and is a wussy when it comes to movies but loves for books to scare her. go figure...

For christmas I got her Chestnut Hill: Making Strides which is a spin off of the Heartland series. It was sooooooooo sad, the poor thing didn't know the series had ended with book 20 and was way looking forward to the next one. She was crushed to hear it was over. But does lurve the new series.

The 3rd in the Chestnut Hill series Heart of Gold has a March 1, 2006 release date. So I am thinking that will be a miss for her bday.

I also got her The Clique by Lisi Harrison. It looks about her age and the reviews I saw around xmas seemed ok. I read the first two chapters and flipped through to see if the cussing jumped at out at me.

It didn't. And she liked it, where if it was horrid, she would run to mom and tell her. I tell ya the kiddo is weird. But there is some scene where the girls are watching some boy undress, which wigged out my aunt. AND it made this amazon list - which I am not sure how much stock I put in amazon lists but still... it makes you go hmmmm the best trashy novels.

So... the question? What do I get my soon to be 12 year old sister for her birthday book?
the girl who doesn't like trades
has 75 of them (76 if you count the one I have twice)

But the big news.... the trades are off the livingroom floor and the contemporary novels are shelved. Sort of. The Bad Boy books are still here, along with the secrets, wicked women and EC's. So I guess they stay in here? Here being the bedroom... or I can move the MM contemps up a shelf and the Brava's out and these behind in the living room.

That sounds like more work though and they are doing a walk through my apt tomorrow. Bastards. I told them to do it late afternoon or the next day, but supposedly they can't. Something to do with a sell...

Do we want to take bets on if they knock in the middle of my phone call? But hey I have like a bookcase and a half done. And I do believe Faye Kellerman is gonna go. Poor girl but I need the space.

Things You Learn While Playing With Your Book Part I.
collected while trying to get the books off the floor and things I should prolly not admit too and would only amuse me but hey you know where you back button is ;)

    I own:

    1. two Anne Stuart novels: A Rose at Midnight (thanks cindy and Lord of Danger (tbr)

    2. over 40 Diana Palmer... but this is counting eight that don't really belong to me but need to be shipped out, as soon as I figure out what I did with the address - again.

    3. Fifteen Dana Ransom books, including four Rosalyn West, and have read one - Wild Texas Bride.

    4. 11 paranormal series novels that I haven't read a one of but am still buying... (not 11 books)

    5. over one hundred and fifty Harlequin Historicals

    6. all six of The Rock Creek Six novels by Linda Devlin and Lori Handeland. It took over 2 years to find them all. I haven't read a one yet.

    7. two Kat Martin books - Innocence Undone and Wicked Promise

    8. almost all the bad boy books - who knew... I am really annoyed at myself for trading away two I bought (new even! I think... not sure on BBO) - Beach Blanket Bad Boys and Bad Boys Online. Then I would only be short two!

yes I really need to get over that omg I must have them all thing

    9. almost all of Geralyn Dawson's books. Which this completely bites because I thought I had them all but I am missing Sizzle All Day and Tempting Morality.

    10. thirteen Lisa Kleypas books - Only With Your Love (was bought twice with two different covers - kept the original), Because Your Mine (same as OWYL but kept new cover), Dreaming of You (can't remember if kristiej pushed me or not), Suddenly You (love), Lady Sophia's Lover (tbr), Worth Any Price (great), Prince of Dreams (tbr), Someone to Watch Over Me (tbr), Where Dreams Begin (tbr), Then Came You (love), It Happened One Autumn (love), Secrets of a Summer Night (didn't want to read - bought after reading IHOA - loved it) and because of a wonderful person - Give Me Tonight (review coming soon)
    file under too cool
one of my fave things about author websites are the extra's about the books...

like Jo Goodman's tidbits or Susan Kay Law's The Story's Story or Madeline Hunter's cut scenes...

Well up at Dorchester's site they have a deleted scene from Shadow Touch by Marjorie M. Liu. It might be at her site too but I haven't looked yet.

I haven't read the book yet, hell I haven't read the first one yet (but I have it). But I will some day.... oh yes I will.... I almost picked it up the other day at Walmart but I am trying to be strong and read the first books before buying the sequels.

Trying is the word to focus on. But either way, seeing deleted scenes up always make me sqqqqeeee.
    Random Questions II.
    1. Are there any changes in the reissue of Laura Kinsale's Dream Hunter? I have the book already, one of my tbr Kinsale's. So I am really hoping it is the same book.

    2. If Romance Junkies gives you a low review (keeping in mind the lowest you can get is a 2 = I did not mind reading) does that mean the reviewer didn't like the book or that the author didn't pay to advertise?

    3. Is chick-lit and contemporary romance the same thing? I was reading a post over at HelenKay Dimon's blog and it reads as if the bad boy books would be called chick-lit. Or at least that was how I took it. Is that right? Cuz if so I have read chick-lit. Go me! When I stopped to think about it. I couldn't really come up with what would make them different.

    4. Have you read Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas? Is not, please report to Kristiej, she has something she wants to talk to you about.

    5. Is Fiona Carr still writing? She has two books I know of - The Mad Marquis (which I recall really liking and kept) and The Kissing Gate (liked it but oddly enough for me didn't keep it). hmmm looks like she is also Judith Stanton, with two books I have never heard of HIS STOLEN BRIDE and WILD INDIGO. Who knew...
    1/28/2006
    Random Questions I.
    1. Who is Cait Logan? Any clue why I have four of her books? Is she any good?

    2. Authors with more than one name... together or in alpha order? Like Dana Ransom/Rosalyn West or Deborah Martin/Sabrina Jeffries both women went under each name and they are both historicals. I am leaning toward together under the most common name.

    3. I don't own enough Futuristic/Fantasy/Time Travel type books. What would you put them with?

    4. What to do with Faye Kellerman? I still have about 13 of the decker series. I have read most of them and she is an author I enjoy. But I don't see me ever reading them again. The historical fiction I will read and a lot of it is tbr so I am keeping. Dennis Lehane I will read again, although where the hell is Mystic River? I must have loaned it out. Damn... Or do I keep her on the off chance I want to read them again?

    5. Candle in the Window and My Favorite Bride by Christina Dodd... I am thinking these are library sale pick up because I don't recall them. Are they worth keeping to read someday?

    6. Am I the only one who reads and likes Diana Palmer? It does look like she is the winner of my most books owned. And I was wrong, I do own one Amanda Quick - Desire.

    7. Do you feel the need to keep every book in a series? Even if you dislike one?

    8. Jennifer Horseman - Virgin Star??? I am thinking this is another library or bag sale. Anyone recommend it?

    9. I have two Anne Stuart's Lord of Danger (tbr) and A Rose at Midnight. And there is one in the car on its way to someone. Winter something or other... What must read Stuart do I need?

    10. What was the Kismet line? I picked up First Mate by Susan Macias aka Susan Mallery but have never heard of the line.
another early review for Devil In Winter
I be all jealous these people have read it...

    Damned Scribbling Women

And I am not sure which is right... RS or WF but Karen Fox has on her page:
NYT bestelling author Lisa Kleypass three novels, contemporary women's fiction, to Jennifer Enderlin at St. Martin's, by Mel Berger at William Morris Agency (NA). - Publisher's Marketplace 2/17/05

Personally I think Contemporary Women's Fiction is worse. But that is just me. I do wish her well with whatever she writes but damn I wish it was historical. Yes I am selfish and think it is all about me. What is your point?
    What you waiting for
    What You Waiting For?
    by Gwen Stefani

    Song lyrics
    What an amazing time
    What a family
How did the years go by
    Now it's only me

    Tick-tock, tick-tock
    Tick-tock, tick-tock
    Tick-tock, tick-tock
    Tick-tock, tick-tock
La, la, la, la, la, la, la (ah, ah, ah, ah, ah)

Like a cat in heat, stuck in a moving car
A scary conversation, shut my eyes, can't find the brake
What if they say that you're a climber
Naturally, I'm worried if I do it alone
Who really cares, cause it's your life
You never know, it could be great
Take a chance cause you might grow
    Oh, ah, oh

    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting for

    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting for

    Tick-tock, tick-tock
    Tick-tock, tick-tock
Take a chance you stupid hoe

Like an echo pedal, you're repeating yourself
You know it all by heart
Why are you standing in one place
Born to blossom, bloom to perish
    Your moment will run out
    Cause of your sex chromosome
I know it's so messed up, how our society all thinks (for sure)
    Life is short, you're capable
    Oh, ah, oh

    (Uh-huh, hu-huh)
    Look at your watch now
You're still a super hot female
    You got your million-dollar contract
And they're all waiting for your hot track

    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting for

    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting
    What you waiting for

I can't wait to go back and do Japan
Get me lots of brand new fans
    Osaka, Tokyo
    You Harajuku girls
Damn, you've got some wicked style

    Go

    Look at your watch now
You're still a super hot female
You got your million dollar contract
And they're all waiting for your hot track

    What you waiting

Now that I have that song stuck in your head... go vote in the AAR 2005 Reader Poll. Hey maybe it will get the song out of your head.

    hee ;)
    new for me!
So pre omg I am going to die... I bought new books!

I think I posted these but I forget since I tried to post many things while the computer was screwy (which it did again just now and I turned off the firewall and poof).

The Highlander's Stolen Bride - Melanie George
Hers to Command - Margaret Moore
wasn't on the list... but I enjoyed the first one

    Jude's Law - Lori Foster
    Room Service - Jill Shalvis
    Renegade Wife - Charlene Sands
    The Sheriff - Nan Ryan
I have no clue why I bought this. I have never read her and really never even heard of her. But it is new and a historical Romance by MIRA, who seems to be putting out a shit load of RS, and a WESTERN. I was weak.

So tell me about Nan Ryan... any good?

    I also have:
Wolf Tales by Kate Douglas that the ever wonderful avid reader sent to me

    AND:
Once in a Blue Moon by Celeste Stuart is on its way to me.

What about you? Any new feb books?
    It's My Party .....
This shit so has to stop. It could be the lack of sleep catching up with me, the weather, or the stress of this coming tuesday but whatever the hell it is I have been sick as a dog for going on two days.

    Not fun...

But my migraine is gone, tummy is settled, my eyes don't feel like they are going to exit my head and I am awake. So score.

I can do nothing about Tuesday but make the call and tell the truth, which hey that worked the first time. I can cross my fingers it will work again. If it doesn't this time than I will deal with it. But making myself sick over it does nothing.

As for the rest of it, I been in worse places in my life. If I have learned anything, it is no one can fix my problems but me. So I made the wrong choice. So I got fucked over. So I believed people I knew who were lying because my heart wanted to.

It happens all the time, to so many different people, for so many different reasons. I can shut down and let fear rule my life or I can move on and make the next choice.

Good or bad at least the choice will be mine. And so my pity party really needs to end. Even though the decorations are fabulous ;)
    1/26/2006
How many readers does it take...
to keep all these people in business...

    I mean you have:
    Readerware
suggested by bev and looks a lot like Collectorz but for a penny more has a free scanner. No clue which came first ;) or what is different.

    Collectorz
being pimped by angiew which runs 39.99.

    Byron
which I have seen mentioned in many places and know AAR uses and is about 129? last I checked.

    Fictiondb
which I am thinking of getting and need to decide fast since my trial ends soon and I think erika is happy with. It is 29.99 for the year w/a free book.

    Librarything
that i know nicole uses and does seem the best price at $10 a year.

And this is just the ones I know about. Who knew there were so many anal readers in the world ;).
    What do you do with....
    your Romantic Times BOOKclub magazine

I have a huge stack of them! I hate to throw them away because uh I have no idea why. But... but what if I throw them out and then I NEED them! Then what? But I can't come up with a reason to keep them, everything in them would be online now. Right? Of course looking at the price on them, and the fact that most are half read, I am wondering why I even bought them.

So help my packratself and give me a reason to keep them ;). If you do keep them, how do you keep them?

Hey I might in up all organized before we know it. I say looking at books still on my floor. le sigh... I should go ahead and get the trash bag for when angie comes in here and tell me to trash em.
    Has anyone read...
Once in a Blue Moon by Celia Stuart?

Good? Bad? It is set in texas and the author is a texan ;). It is funny, I am very protexas writers but such a bad texan myself.

But really have I ever claimed to make sense?

It is an ebook, in case you are sitting there going what the hell is that and why haven't I heard of it! Giggles was eh on it but I hardly ever agree with her reviews, although I find her amusing. RT liked it but I am about 30/70 with them.

It is a liquid silver book. I haven't tried them yet, uh I think, we know how my memory is. I have been on an ebook binge lately, yes many more unfinished blogs to be coming your way. But I am surprised at how expensive it is for a nonpaper book. At $6.20 without tax that is more than I normally per book. Why is that?

    Anyway... thoughts on the story?

Judging a Book By Its Cover
    damn damn damn

I should so KnoW better than to do this by now but sometimes it is hard to not roll your eyes and put the book back. Way easy to do when you don't know of the author and have never read anything by her.

I just read AAR's review of Hope's Captive by Kate Lyon. It is a western. I had it in my hands at walmart a few weeks back but there wasn't anything else there I wanted, the lines were long and well the cover is blah. So I decided to put it back until I read something about it. It isn't like I am hurting for books.

ACK! It sounds good. I want! And now I need to find it! Do we want to take bets I won't be able to find it in a store? hmmm maybe it will be added to my BAMM order.

Really I know kristiej likes to harp on Avon and their covers but really I think Dorchester has them beat. At least on the historicals.
link me baby one more time
    Two questions:

    1. How in the hell do you 'link back' or whatever it is called. I see it a lot on Romancing the Blog, where a person comments and it is a link back to their blog. Is that trackback? If so how do you do this?

    2. Is it a good thing to do this?
I am of two minds regarding this - yes shocking I know. On one hand I find when responding to blogs I am talking too much - yes even more shocking. And I don't want to take up that much room in someone's blog. WHY I don't know since I don't care how long people talk when responding to my blog. Go figure.

On the other hand, is that just a sneaky like way to get traffic to your blog? Or even if it isn't your point in doing it, how many people see it that way?

If you don't respond to the post and then go blog about it, is that shitty to the person who spent so much time creating that RTB post? Right now I generally just link to wherever or whatever got me started thinking on the subject the post is on. Yes I know I over think things.... and that ended up more than two questions ;)

blah I can't keep my eyes open... I guess five hours of sleep in three days isn't enough. And damn it I so want to redo and finish the crap I lost when I bluescreen while the computer is playing nice. I turned the firewall back on, changed nothing and it is working fine now. Knock on wood. eh I shall go see if I can get that housecall thing to run now.

New computer is the first thing on the fucking list of things to buy, well after I do something about that job thing.
    lovely...
    damn it all to hell...

I haven't been able to get into my blog to post or to post at any other blog for like 24hr.

I just shut down my firewall. And poof I can now post. Any idea's what to look at in the firewall that would have changed, by its stupid self since I haven't touched it, to make it where I can't log into any site needed a pass word?
    1/24/2006
The maze that use to be my mind
Now since I live in a one bedroom apt, the whole library a la cindy is out ;). There really isn't a system other than I have authors grouped together... very oddly. Which only began to bug me recently because if I have to find something... I have to dig! And I have only been reading (romance) for about 3 years, currently have around 1200 and have prolly traded in at least 500.

I have tracked nothing... The idea was to use some of this time off wisely and put away the books crawling up my walls, track what I own, figure out what is tbr, get rid of books I don't want and then try and figure out what I had that is gone baby gone.

So total number of book cases - 5.

    1. Made to fit paperback books. Six shelves - holding only one row of books.
*** I am pretty set on this one holding the Harlequin books. Downside with the anthologies in it, the Desires, IM, SE, and AR doesn't fit. They are currently stacked on top. LOL turns out I own over 150 HH... who knew?

    2. 4 shelves but top one is currently holding printer. (screwed myself in the divorce by taking the small desk) So currently working with 3 - two rows a shelf (could stack about four on top but aiming to not do that).

    3. Built into the wall (runs floor to ceiling) in the livingroom, which you can see as you open the front door (causes the pizza guy to stare in shock and very smartly say... guess you like to read). total of 5 rows - MM about 35 across and each shelf will hold 4 rows of MM.

    4. lil shelf which I am just now thinking could hold a printer on the top if moved... Currently holding paranormal books only. 3 shelves and will only hold one row (about 25). Hmmm but thinking about it all my Anita Blake books are with a friend. blah I will worry about that later, haven't even bothered to get the last one.

    5. new bookcase no clue really what it will hold... has 4 rows that can be moved to fit size... I would guess it would be close to number 3.

I still think I will keep it grouped by type... harl, his, contemp, para,

Or I can say fuck it and just start on one wall and work my way around and go in alpha order

With either of these two ideas my questions:
    A. Tradesize - where do I put them all together, with their author (screwing with the size!), or all together by separated with the group they belong in.

    B. Historical - include westerns? or should westerns get their own group?

Yes by this point in the program I agree I need my head examined because really it doesn't fucking matter. But it bugs! And I am going to have to get these books off my floor at some point. My livingroom is covered in tradesize books. I had no idea I had even bought that many. Bedroom has bad boy books because of the blog I am doing, plus the books from the last library sale and ubs trip to be logged and blogged. There is a box full of books because there was no space on the cases (before the new one). There three stacks of 15 books a piece that started out as books to review/blog. Another of just Diana Palmer that need to be mailed out, from forever ago. Another stack of DP that need to go on the shelf but there was no room at the time. Then there is a stack on each side of the Harl. bookcase that are books that use to be in the case that now has just Harlequin books.

And I just want to sit down and read a book. Oy... Not really sure why I blogged this other than maybe the shame of seeing it will make me do something about it. If my mother comes over I am so pretending I am not home.
    anthology this...
So Harlequin is down... sort of. Where the hell do you keep your Anthologies?

By type... harlequin's with harlequins, paranormals with paranormals so forth and so on...

    or all together?

Lucky for me I don't have any that are trade and MM, which is why I think my bad boy books will stay trade. Hey turns out I have 9 - 11 if you count the two I bought new and traded away. But more on that laters...

Where do the anthologies go? And how to I keep myself from starting books as I find them. I am shocked at how many books I forgot I even had.

    wwwhhhhhheeeeeeeeee it is like xmas.

    Want List take II
A nifty site that keeps a list of upcoming books is My Little Book Garden I can't remember how I found it but it is nifty. Check it out ;). As well as fictiondb

    * read reviews first
    ** need more info
    *** will buy used

What is the difference between * and ** you say? Well a * I want a review first but a ** means I have no clue what the book is about, either the title or author caught my eye. So I might start to lust after a ** book without a review.

    JAN
His Comfort and Joy by Jessica Bird
    Summer Breeze by Catherine Anderson
**Bad Boys Ahoy! by Sylvia Day - sort of but not yet... It shall be a birthday gift to me! Sez I but I haven't placed the order yet. Yes lets all YAY the gift of cash!
*Flesh and Stone by Vickie Taylor - **need to read the first book** but really who am I kidding, I will buy it.

*The Highlander's Stolen Bride by Melanie George - loved Pleasure Seekers, will prolly get new but I shouldn't. BUT in my defense I have read the other two PS books. I really hope this is good. I so recall loving The first one. Damn her covers are getting cheesy.
**No Longer Mine by Shiloh Walker - Anyone know anything about this one? Looks like a second chance romance type book and I am sort of eh on that.
Jude's Law by Lori Foster - This is suppose to be out... or sez amazon I can't find it yet

    FEB
Lady of Sin by Madeline Hunter - auto-buy
Never Seduce a Scoundrel (The School for Heiresses)by Sabrina Jeffries - auto-buy there have been about two books of hers I didn't like. And the set-up for the School for Heiresses series sounds like it could be a lot a fun. It could sucks rocks too but I am expecting the first ;).

Room Service by Jill Shalvis - last in the Do Not Disturb series... I think

    Harlequin books
How do you sort your books? I realize this is sort of an anal question but I figure I am speaking to the right people ;).

I was given a bookshelf for xmas - really got it early. Then right before xmas :) same aunt who bought the bookshelf, ended up with another! wwwwwwwwhhhhhhheeeeee And gave it to me.

Very cool sez I. So it has been sitting empty (the new new one) in the livingroom while I try and decide how I want to put up my books. Which leads to - god I really really need to track what I own, trade, sell and like/dislike - which leads to what data system to use - which leads to visions of stealing rosario's excel sheet - which leads to omg that would still be so much fucking work - which leads to shit I need to finish those reviews - which leads to crap there are 10 blog drafts to get done, which leads to omg I have emails half done to send - which leads to nope in the world cares about the above by me so I just shutting off my brain because I can't think and or finish jack. And this is just the book part of my rambling mind (you know the hobby) not even including books to trade, USPS and yahoo group.

But today was D-Day (which really makes the 31st thing a pissmeoffIdon'twanttofuckwiththispleasegofuckyourselfandleavemealone issue - blog to come after sometime in feb ;) ) and my mark to start working on the stacks of to do lists, I am not going to take the easy way out and use crap as an excuse. So we lead back to the question ;). And prolly an annoying question and one I see on message boards and such but never really paid attention to.

Sorry... hey I could be asking about who you think should play those Robb character's in a movie.

How do you sort your books?

Right now I am focusing on the Harlequin's. Do you group by line? By author? By line and by issue number? By line and by series?

I am thinking, I will do by line then author. But since I love to collect backlists - maybe I should do by author. But other than HH there aren't many in the other lines. I have found with the blaze and temptation lines, I like the same authors... so I am mostly collecting old and new Karen Anderson, Lori Foster, Alison Kent, Jo Leigh, Isabel Sharpe, Jamie Sobrato, Vicki Lewis Thompson, and Nancy Warren with a few others here and there to try. And I own ONE American - Carol Finch who I own 7 HH's. I own a about 7? lines because I wanted to try a few different ones but when I looked into them there are a couple that just so don't interest me. LOL and I do have a blog started on each line I plan to put up at some point... not that anyone really prolly cares but me.

Anywho I think with the colors and such mixing lines would look way ugly. la la la I know nothing I do is set in stone but I was wondering what others did. Or if I was the only fucking crazy person who even gave it much thought.

    a sign of a problem...
I have lost three books. And the sad thing is I am not sure what they were. The library closed at 5 yesterday. And I had to go to lunch with my family for my birthday. (Why I don't know but that is a long story.)

So I leave after dinner, drive 20 mins in the other direction, passing my apt in the process and get to the library at 4:45. So I just quickly glanced over the titles They were charging too much for a LS but it was only .50 and the money is for the library so really it isn't bad but I do like .25 better ;).

Now I know I spent 5 bucks. YAY birthday money.... haven't decided where all the rest will go but that is a different problem. After we went to dinner today, just mom, sis and dad, since it is the day, mom mentions the cake. And I am like eh? Lil sis, bless her 12 year old self, screwed up and told me they weren't coming over. SO I come home and frantically try and clean up. I think books just got stuck places (in the process of moving books around, finish some reviews and blogs they are EVERYWHERE and I don't want to listen to my mom).

Sooooooooo two books I bought I know I didn't want but sounded like things people I knew wanted. I think, or did I put it down and not buy it? ACK
.50 each total spent 5 would equal 10 books...
I know I have and where they are:
    1. Little Miss Innocent - Lori Foster (WAY cool to find because I decided like two days ago I needed this)

    2. Summer Thunder - Elizabeth Lowell (the old sil desire cover amused me and hey .50!)

    3. Desire Me Only - Thea Devine (old zebra MM cover - prolly not keeping)

    4. For The First Time - Kathryn Smith (loved her last book and want to try some others)

    5. Loving Katherine - Caroline Davidson (WAY cool because I had it holding to pick up - sad thing was when I picked the books up at the ubs the other Runaway was now gone)

    6. Bittersweet - Sandra Brown (have this but this one was a like new copy - of course I didn't know that when I bought it but whatever)

so that is SIX books.... I am almost positive one was Her Scoundrel. Because I have this and thought someone wanted it and it is a newer books and I was surprised to see it. But I can only find one copy. And I thought one was a dancer? something book by Maxwell (the other name for Elizabeth Lowell)... again something someone else wanted. But I can't find them! And the other two... I am just blanking. I know there were ten before I got out of the car at the ubs (stop after lib).

le sigh. I am just rambling but I was hoping it would jog my memory. hmmm you know it is possible some fell in my car. I should go check there.
like the price... hate the price tag
I think this happens most often with books I get from library sales or old OOP books from ubs but how do you remove a HARD to remove price tag!!!

I hate to leave them but I hate to mark the book taking it off.

    Are you an International Reader?
If yes, go forth and read this post on alison kent's blog.

    very nifty....
    Catherine Anderson
Karen Scott's Tuesday interview is with... you guessed it... Catherine Anderson. Check it out!

wendy The Super_Librarian (not to be confused with the regular ones ;) )recently posted a review for Summer Breeze. And since we generally agree on good westerns, or at least I agree with her, this has been placed high on the tbr pile.

So we know how wendy feels about CA and avid reader has a view or two. How about you?

Like her? Hate her? Eh about her? Have some rec's for me?

What works for you and what doesn't?
    1/20/2006
Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
Jay had an interesting point in her comment regarding the 'bad boy' books...
My issue with the Bad Boy books is that they rarely if ever feature bad boys. Just because they're alpha doesn't mean they're bad.

So what does Bad Boy mean to you? When you pick up a novel, a Brava Bad Boy 'catch phrase', or any book that describes the hero has a BAD BOY - what do you expect? Or should I say, what do you want to expect?

What are the characteristic of a Bad Boy?

How is a Bad Boy different than what you expect in an Alpha Hero?

Does Bad Boy = Rake for a historical novel?

Is leather the official gear for a 'bad boy' or just a way to piss off Misty.

Do we not want the good guy to get the girl?
    1/16/2006
    been around the web...
    Avon's new Erotica line:
I am guessing it kicks off in June, since Kimberly Dean's sites says she is in the 1st book.

If This Bed Could Talk I really like the cover. Liz Maverick and Lynn LaFleur round out the anthology.
    --------------------------------------------------
    Brotherhood dates from JR Ward:
    March 06 Rhage
    Sept 06 Z
March 07 Butch *note he now has a book of his very own*
    Sept 07 V
    March 08 Phury

Ward also sez: there will be the four more but I'm not sure what order they are going to be in: Rehvenge, Tohr, Payne and Tehrror. But again, I'm not sure of the order...

    hear me sqeeeeeee
    --------------------------------------------------
ACK! These bad boy whatever books are enough to kill a budget. I swear! I have pretty much decided they are going to have to stay tradesize, I am not rebuying them in MM even though I would rather have them in MM. Why am I whining about this you ask? Because I have two or three on my list for this year... and now I find another I will need.

Viva Las Bad Boys by HelenKay Dimon is set to come out in Aug. I love Vegas! And really can't think of too many vegasy romance books I have read, of course I read mostly historical and paranormal books. But really it sounds good.... I guess I will have a better idea after WHEN GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO BAD BOYS comes out. No matter what she really got lucky having her first book come out with Lori Foster and Erin McCarthy. Hopefully it will sale well.
    --------------------------------------------------
Joy Nash has an interesting sounding book coming out, for those of you tired of the same ol same ol regency historicals.

Check out The Grail King info at her site. It is another Dorchester Love Spell and a sequel to Celtic Fire. A book I had to have! And of course is still tbr ;).
    --------------------------------------------------
Carolyn Jewel is working on The Rake. I know that doesn't mean much, it isn't sold yet, but just the fact that she is working on it gives me joy.

    hear me sqeeeee again!

Historical Romance can't afford to lose anymore authors to paranormals. Sez I :)
    --------------------------------------------------
Anyone know what Jo Goodman is working on? I can't find any news :(
    --------------------------------------------------
Damn... did Some Like it Wicked sell really really well? I haven't read it yet, although I do have it ;). There are two more books in the trilogy SOME LIKE IT SINFUL and SOME LIKE IT BRAZEN. AND Deborah Raleigh has signed with Zebra for three more books.

Deborah just signed with Zebra Historicals for another trilogy. The books are tentatively entitled One Night with a Baron, One Night with a Viscount, and One Night with an Earl.

Hope they are good! YAY more historicals!
    --------------------------------------------------
hmmm.... I didn't know Judith E. French use to write westerns or early american novels (whatever you wanna call them). Anyone read any of them?

I almost bought The Warrior this weekend but I was strong since it wasn't on the list.
    --------------------------------------------------
I really need to read (yes there is a trend here)Lord of Desire because Lord of Temptation looks really good. I think the third in the trilogy is called Lord of Seduction.
    --------------------------------------------------
Is there a rule somewhere that says erotica = higher prices. Why does more sex in a book mean it should be a trade size? The Bad Boy books (which really some are way tame) are trade, looks like AVON's new line will come out in trade size, Aphrodisia (Kensington)line is trade, Secrets books are trade, the ebooks in print are trade and hell even Harlequin's new line SPICE will be trade size.

Why? It can't just be due to erotica being a 'hot' market. I don't see inspirational all coming out in trade. So what gives?
    --------------------------------------------------
Is it a bad sign Josie Litton as a dead website?
    --------------------------------------------------
Looks like Pam Rosenthal will have a new book out in sept of this year. Cool... maybe by then I will have read the one I have and bought A House East of Regent Street (a novella featured in the anthology Strangers in the Night)

yes my tbr scares me.... so I think I shall shut off the computer and go read. I will not be around blogging much this week. Because I need to cross some things off my many to do lists, instead of screwing around on the internet and not finishing one fucking thing. hmmm well that might be true since finishing up some draft posts and reviews are on one of the lists... but I will be strong and will not blog hop. maybe

Well I will try. Baby steps...
    1/12/2006
Let's do the Time Warp again!
HelenKay Dimon posts a 'Mini Rant on Reviews' and it is an interest post. Go forth and read if you haven't seen it.

angiew lights up the links fantastic and gives you directions to many different people who have gone on to blog about her RtB post from yesterday.

Some interesting stuff, some silly stuff, some poke it with a fork and call it done stuff...

Writers, readers, reviews, reviewers so forth and so on aren't going anywhere... but hey it is fun to talk about. BUT man is it a time suck.
    1/11/2006
because there is never enough said about reviewing
AngieW has an interesting post at Romancing the Blog.

    A Question of Credibility

It touches on a couple of things but two that caught my eye were:
1: amazon reviews and requesting them to be removed
2: is it possible to fairly review a book written by a 'friend'

Great blog with some interesting comments... of course I do like AngieW and link to her blog so take my opinion for what it is worth ;).
    1/10/2006
in my ever growing quest to be the last person to know about anything
Karen Scott has been putting up author interviews on her blog.

    Loretta Chase is up today.

ohh lookie Emma Holly! hee looks like her fave book of hers has been my least fave so far. Love her answer to the - Has anything a reviewer or reader said or written about you changed the way you write? question.
Unicorns Are in the World Again - again
    WoOT Beverly is back.

kewl that! A Maili and a Beverly, jan is a good month. Of course this does show how I completely lost last week because she came back on the 4th!
Sit... Stay... Roll Over... Play Dead
If you have visited Keishon aka avid reader's blog in, oh say the last few days, you may have heard of a lil book called:

    Wolf Tales

and her love for the novel. /sarcasm

    Now we are:
    A: Talking of a book I haven't read
B: Talking of an author I have never heard of nor read
C: It is someone from Amazon that said the author requested the review removed
D: It is possible the author never saw the review.

But yikes, is it just me, or is it beyond tacky if an author askes to have a negative review removed from Amazon?

Being something of a potty mouth, free thinker, to each their own type of person - Keishon's review doesn't read to me as offensive. I could see someone whining about the gross comment in this sentence:
This story may not be my cuppa but it might be other reader's (gross).
But hell I have read worse on amazon, is that because the author just didn't remove it? Or can anybody request to have a review removed? Even if I didn't know keishon, if I like the book, that gross comment isn't going to keep me from sleeping at nights. Of course knowing keishon, and the fact she is sending me the book, if I do end up liking it she will just tell me I am gross ;). So hey either way score...

To me, amazon - which has been greatly getting on my nerve lately but that is a different post - reviews are public opinion and are not for the author to approve. And really I read some of the reviews just to get a handle on the book or to look for spoilers ;). In fact keishon's deep love for this book made me look at it twice and think about buying it.

If the reviews are all happy happy, joy joy, I discount them out of hand. Fair? Prolly not. But for every book one person lovesese to death someone else hates - and isn't that ok? When I review a book, I am thinking about what "I" thought of the book. I will say if it is going to AAR I think about my language vs if it goes on my blog I can curse a bluestreak. But other than that... a review is about what the reader thinks not the author. I would hope the author loves the book!

Or am I wrong? If I were to go to amazon and post a review on say.... Lover Eternal by JR Ward. (Which I could cuz I have read it. And a secret between you and me (and angiew) - it rocks, I would tell you more but nope) And after figuring out how to post a review on amazon all I say is JR Ward is a big fat ho don't buy this book.

I could so see Ward sending an email to amazon telling them to get that off. That isn't reviewing the book but the author. (btw ward is as kewl as her books, which means she isn't a big fat ho. Well not that I know of at least ;) )

But other than some type of attack on the author, or someone repeatedly posting a bad review from the same IP, is it ok to request to remove a review? As authors, if there are any of you guys out there, have you requested to have something removed? What made you do it? Did you think after the fact it was a good idea?

As a reader, a bad review can and does often peak my interest in a book. Is that just me? Or course I am still hoping the author didn't ask to have it removed. Or maybe this is common practice and since I have never posted a review on Amazon I have never noticed it. Who knows... I have my own reviews to go finish.
Devil in Winter review up at romance junkies
    review

I am not familiar with the site. New Bookmark!

But either way.... look review... just shows we are that much closer to getting our happy hands on this book!

    wwwhhhhheeeeeeeeeee

Personally I think LK should have sent me an ARC but since I never win those damn contests, alas I must wait.
    1/09/2006
    BRAVA missed Maili too
    Bad Boys in Kilts

Is it just me or does there seem to be lots of scottish like romance books coming out?

Not sure how I feel about the bad boys books that don't die. There are about two or three this year I will get. And I do like it as a vehicle for new authors but I like it more when there is a three authors vs all three by one author. The most annoying thing is they are tradesize! Of course hey if they sell, don't fix what isn't broken.

not that anyone has called me up and asked my opinion or anything...

ohhh and lookie riemannia's list of lists

I prolly won't do a list of my own just because I will so forget something. Every year at this time I look at some of you guys and think ok I am going to get it together and track my books! But then I get sidetracked by reading them and well...

So I am making a list of the lists, so I can remember to go back later and steal the good titles I missed to put on my tbl ;). Feel free to tell me about any list I missed or any new ones posted.
    A quiz of sorts...
gakked from two of my favorite bitches

I liked the questions and thought kewl, new tbb books for the wish list! But not so much, as I read through the comments, there were lots of books I have already read or am not interested in. JR Ward was mentioned repeatedly as best new author, which is cool. And PC Cast was as well, I keep meaning to check out one of her books. Any suggestions?

So what about you guys out? hee if there is anyone still reading my long neglected blog. Oh and do go post your answers at smart bitches if you can, so they don't yell at me too much ;). I am still thinking on my answers and shall post later, here and there (if I member my sign on).

    What are your:

Best author you discovered this year (Ok, you can name up to 3)

Best new book you read this year (again, top 3)

Book you wish you’d skipped over and spent that $9 on a pair of Payless shoes instead.

Book off your keeper shelf most likely to be read in 2006.

What book coming out in 2006 are you most looking forward to? (Feel free to -gasp!- pimp your own)

    Best cover?

    Worst Cover?
And another one bites the dust
If you look at the coming soon page of Susan Kay Law's website it sez:
"Yes, it's an historical! Says Susan:
"I'm too superstitious to say before it's offical!
Let me let you know - sign up for my
    book announcement (it's spam-free!)!"

but if you look at her post on Squawkradio it sez:
Susan Kay Law is too busy trying desperately to catch up on her Christmas shopping to write a clever bio. And you all know everything important about her already, except this: after twelve American historical romances (the first of which won RWA's Golden Heart Award, the last of which won RWA's Rita Award) she is now writing contemporary mainstream fiction for Berkley. Is it not, she insists, chick-lit. However, "Pissed-Off-Forty-Something-Lit" comes close. (And she swears there is not one shoe brand name mentioned in the entire thing.) Her website's at http://www.susankaylaw.com/

I can only hope she will still write westerns as well. le sigh...
    1/02/2006

This Rake of Mine - Elizabeth Boyle - bought new but haven't read yet but did skim a lil and I wonder why the hell I am buying these new! This is so an author I need to pull off the shelf and read. I have all of them but one, there had to be a reason for the glom.

guess I never did a December want list but the post before this one sort of takes care of that ;) Now to work on 2006!
books books books new and used books
I used the xmas gift certs and came away with:
    Willing by Lucy Monroe
Hot Spell by Emma Holly, Lora Leigh, Shiloh Walker and MELJEAN BROOK
Heiress for Hire by Erin McCarthy (didn't know this was out yet)
Her Sexiest Mistake by Jill Shalvis
    I almost bought:
Summer Breeze by Catherine Anderson was in my hand but I just couldn't spend the 7.99 without getting a chance to read a chapter or reading a review or two

LOL can you tell I hate tradesize books and read mostly histroicals ;)

    Used books purchased today:
All I Want by Isabel Sharpe (BLAZE)
Hot Spot by Debbi Rawlins (BLAZE)
Give Me Fever by Karen Anders (BLAZE - another Red Letter Nights book... with one more to come)
Red Hot Santa by Cherry Adair, Leanne Banks, Pamela Britton and Kelsey Roberts - I really don't read any of these authors but hey it was .98! Maybe I will fall in love with an author and really I need new authors. hee
Christmas Gold by Cheryl St. John, Elizabeth Lane and Mary Burton
Hey not bad for 5 bucks and some change! Really it annoys if you think that a week ago just the last two books would have cost me more than I spent on all five. Tis the season and all that...

    Speaking of
New books that were under the tree:
Dead to the World (needed the paperback)
    Perfect Waltz by Annie Gracie
The Royal Pain by Maryjanice Davidson (anyone looking for it that valentine book is out at B&N)

New books I bought right before xmas for me because I needed them:
Sweet Water by Anna Jeffrey - hit or miss author with me but I liked two out of the last three and kept one

Goes Down Easy by Alison Kent - made me bring out Red Letter Nights to read, which I bought a month early from the eHarlequin site

Minute By Minute by Jo Leigh - This is a blog author. Meaning someone I liked due to her blog and started reading her because of it. Shows how blogs can be good things ;).

Redemption by Carolyn Davidson - HH author I have found I love, although I like her older books more than the newer ones. But this book was a great read. Hope to blog about it... someday.

Two Little Lies by Liz Carlyle

Midnight Marriage by Victoria Bylin - the number of HH books I have bought in the last few months is scary.

more used books bought in December because I am drawn to big signs that say SALE:
The Redhead and the Preacher by Sandra Chastain - I read something by her a few months back I liked.

    Comanche Promise by Carol Finch

Maggie's Beau (HH) by Carolyn Davidson

Cally And The Sheriff & Heart and Home (Harlequin Historical) by Cassandra Austin aka James E. Austin - hee he is a boy one of the few male romance authors I have found I like.

The Love Charm by Pamela Morsi - yo it was like .75! Of course the book I want is Courting Miss Hattie or something like that... which is in Trade size at B&N for 20! Hell even if I wasn't poor I wouldn't get that. And there is that I hate trade size books thing.

    Scandalous Miranda by Susan Sizemore

The Skypirate by Justine Davis - nothing like finding a book you have had on your wish list forever in good shape for .50

Come What May by Leslie Lafoy - not the one I wanted but I have been wanting to try some of her older stuff

Sweet Thing by Alison Tyler - eh I understand it is erotica and not romantica but I want two people HEA at the end of the book for more than a page or two! I have Sticky Fingers by Tyler still, hope that one is better.

The Tiger's Mistress by Andrea DaRif - I was beginning to think this wasn't really in print ;).

There were also two EC's that were eh. I forget the names and they are already gone. Damn it to hell, this is why I end up rebuying books. hmmmm neither were authors I had heard of or read before... I will so have to figure out where I wrote them down. LOL or jay can just tell me the names when she opens the package ;).

I think that is all for this month. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't factor in I didn't buy any books for about two weeks. OH and in there somewhere I bought new
The Lion's Daughter by Loretta Chase. Hey I was proud of me I had Almost a Lady by Jane Feather in my hand as well and only bought the one I knew I would read right away.

Now of course I need to do a want list of books coming out ;). And since the new bookshelf is here now, I need to figure out how I want to sort my books and move them in. My lil sis was like, uh just take the ones in the piles against the wall in your bedroom. She so didn't understand that I had a thought process!
    1/01/2006
    whine wine wyne
I can't tell you the amount of time I have spent the last few weeks looking into shit I:
    A. Have no interest in
    B. Don't own nor want to
    C. Don't understand

I have shit to do. I have things I need to do. I have crap I would like to catch up on. There are books to mail, read and review. There are blogs to type and post. And a score of personal crap like apartment cleaning and sorting, oh and that ever present JOB to find.

But what am I going to do right now? Look into memory cards and prices for digital cameras. So I can then go reload XP on my mom's computer so I can then try and fix her internet so I can then try and get my sisters IPOD shuffle to download.

Since xmas I have put in over 24 hours trying to get my mom's computer to work with the stupid Ipod shuffle thing. Turns out if I had just upgraded it to XP without calling the SBC/yahoo people (who I now hate with a passion), it would work just dandy. But that is a long story for another time... don't worry ten to one I will forget and never bore you with it ;). Or put it where it belongs on my lj not the book blog.

I am sure I am just a horridly selfish person but I am so overwhelmed with this shit. Where does the time go? I blink and the day is gone and I can't figure out what the fuck I did with it!
Making a list and checking it twice
I need a list of the books I owe. Well *need* might be too strong of a word but since I am now sadly on a budget and sort of have time I want to try and tackle this - again.

And there is that fact that so many books are starting to run together cover and summary wise. I can't afford to buy books I already have.

Since money is an issue - BRYON is out. Which honestly I would love to have but right now if I had that amount of money to just drop, I would get an Ebookreader. I am still kicking myself for not looking into the price around xmas because I could have gotten one from my mommy. But I didn't realize I could get my hands on one for 79.

Wonder how much they are going for now... there is that birthday coming up. Must remember to look into that!

hmmm I totally lost the point of this post - la la la - oh yes Cataloging! Have you used and/or what are your thoughts on:

    Librarything

    Fictiondb

Or do you have another idea? I want something I can export into excel if possible. One thing that jumps out at me is Fictiondb has the upcoming books and pseudonym things but I think you can get that for free on the site.

They look like they both have free options to try them, so I might do that. But that ever present time thing will have me putting it on a list and then not doing crap with it until this time next year ;).

If I did half the shit I made lists to do, I would be so organized I would be scary.
